17. “Let’s build a pillow fort!”

image

Heero catches the pillows thrown at him reflexively, a confused expression crossing his face. How did he get caught up in this ridiculousness…?

"And then what?" he asks, not seeing the point to it. "What do you do after you’ve built it?"

Fea completely missed the perplexed look painted across the brunette’s face, too busy creating the pillow fort with materials at his disposal. In the midst of throwing over the bedsheets, pale blue eyes glanced back at the other.

“Why, you crawl in there and relax and sleep! Whatever you feel like doing, really~You’re certainly putting more thought into this than necessary, you know. It’s all part of childhood!”

"It’s not that. I actually like this District very much… I just need to see new things."

“Ah, you had me worried for a moment there, Eve!
Shouldn’t word things so dramatically like that~!”

"Do you ever think about just running away?"

It had been meant to sound appealing, but he assumed that Fea would figure the rest out on his own. “Hardly,” Gido sighed. “Even if you run, even if it turns out wrong, it was your decision to begin with.” A little smile played around the corners of his mouth. It returned the teasing edge in Fea’s. “Sometimes it’s worth it and sometimes it’s not, but you can never know unless you take a chance. Why do you want to run anyway? Is it something, or someone you’re running from?” Or was it somewhere or someone he wanted to run to? There were only these four possibilities.

Fea would have figured it out eventually when left alone with his thoughts to mull over. He could only nod in agreement with Gido’s elaboration of his explanation. Of course, he already knew this, but to hear it from a person’s mouth—someone he held in high regards—it bore more weight than his mind’s voice. Pale blue eyes then peeked through open lids at Gido’s further prodding.

"Sometimes, it’s simply exhausting to bear all these responsibilities and conduct ourselves accordingly at all times. To just run away—if only momentarily—would be a nice escape. I suppose what I want is a vacation, hmm?"

Fea merely smiled in an amusing manner to keep things light as he rub the back of his neck sheepishly.

Fea blinked at the sudden declaration
and smiled in a disarming manner.
“Ah, I said no such thing.
Surely someone is mistaken to say that.”

Chance Encounter

gidoverius:

As for that Gido could assure him that it were many and he’d seen quite a few of those. It was just one of these weird benefits you got from turning, when you were a kid, which of course it wasn’t. There was no benefit in this job for anyone. Even the extra life came with a huge price tag. For one because of the destiny you had to fulfil and the because the life you got never seemed to last particularly long.

It had been a while since Gido had seen a bishop among the Ghosts, but Fea was right, it was convenient. The occupation allowed travelling and it’s reputation inconspicuous. Also he would also remain close to the places associated to them. This church and the Cuvere needed to remain in access to them and without any allies around it was much more difficult.

It wasn’t the open space that bothered him, it was the place itself and he still felt like he should disappear from this damned church as soon as he could. Even though it was completely unlikely that anyone except for Jio would actually recognise him. Still– Gido didn’t feel safe, being here. So he was glad that Fea agreed.

Regarding his brother, they first had to make sure that said one didn’t know of his brothers death and would never find out too. The families had to remain unaware of their existence. Otherwise they would have to find another way to assist the king of Raggs. His friendship would be a great advantage for their task of finding Verloren.

Gido nodded briefly to reassure him. “Well, I’m sure he’s around here somewhere…” Absent mindedly Gido tugged at his gloves, glancing over at Fea. Something seemed vaguely familiar about him, anyhow since Gido made sure to stay out of political issues he had wasn’t too familiar with the royal families faces. For as long as the treaty remained active there was nothing to worry about, except for the usual. The canopy above their heads began to close as they reached a small group of trees and Gido relaxed a bit. Thinking about it, it was actually ridiculous, but he couldn’t help himself. He didn’t like this place. “See?” Gido lifted a hand, smiled a little as he waved Jio who was accompanying the archbishop in some distance to them. Jio only gave a nod of recognition and what seemed to be the start of smile, although he seemed confused. Could it be that he wasn’t aware that this church now held a Ghost? After all this was the only exciting reason for his visit.

Technically now he had fulfilled his duty, Gido realised as they stood side by side, watching the two bishops rush by. It was a comforting thought. He could report back to Gala and go back to his usual duties. “ What did the others tell you?” Of course there was always the individuals knowledge, but of course this always left some gaps that needed to be filled.

It was probably unheard of in the history of the Seven Ghosts that anyone in the line would have a family member of the Ghost interacting with them at all let alone know of their existence. But considering the situation, Fea’s death was at the hands of an assassination while he was impersonating Krom, leaving the King the only other person to know of his death and to be reincarnated as Vertrag. The platinum blonde’s intention was to return to his brother’s side as a close attendant and a baby-sitter of sorts upon earning the title of a Bishop. Krom would surely require his assistance whether as a figure from the Barsburg Church or as the Ghost Vertrag.

“Most likely attending to things…” The examinee softly said as his head slightly tilted to one side when Gido glanced over at him. Did he have something on his face? It wouldn’t be the first time that happened upon entering the sanctuary.

Refreshingly cool breeze under the canopy was welcomed on the rather warm day and pale blue eyes followed where Gido had pointed to as he spoke. When his eyes fell upon the recognizable face of the Assistant Archbishop, Fea gave an acknowledging nod in return, missing the older man’s slightly confused expression. “Ah..well, that’s uncanny timing,” he remarked as the Archbishop and Jio continued on their conversation and the briefly glanced over to Gido when he asked a question. “Oh, not much. I understood most of it due to…memories.” Hopefully, Gido knew the reference was to their inheritance of their ghostly line. “It was mostly introductory and welcoming and then deciding where I should go.” At this a light shrug followed suit.
